TQA
Products for the 21st Century
Many long standing products previously approved for insurance purposes are now seen as outdated and unable to combat today's methods of stealing vehicles. Most concerning was their inability to guarantee a level of consistent performance.
A major upgrade to the standards was required if insurers and owners could have confidence in the products they requested or purchased.
This occurred in 2006 and changes the market place considerably for 2007 and the years ahead.
In response to these concerns, ‘Thatcham’, the world renown motor insurance research centre, have implemented a new standard for Tracking and Security systems known as Thatcham Quality Accreditation or ‘TQA’ for short.
The official introduction of ‘TQA’ happened on the 12th January 2007 and simultaneously the previous, long standing, ‘Q’ list has been abandoned.
All products previously Q listed no longer carry a Thatcham approval as of this date. Products wishing to retain an accreditation must now pass TQA.
On the 1st November 2006, i-mob became the first manufacturer of security and tracking products to be awarded TQA accreditation.
Many Q listed products have not, or will not, make this transition therefore they may no longer be acceptable to your insurer and may not comply with their mandatory requirements.
Buyers must ensure that the products they purchase carry a Thatcham accreditation.
